Mindfuck.
That’s because the Christians were too lazy to change the name of the month. October was the 8th month in the Roman calendar.
WHY DO I EVEN KNOW THIS?
septem is seven, octo is eight, novem is nine, decem is ten. (i’m taking up italian which is a not-far-removed cousin of latin, whereby the numbers count as: sette, otto, nove, dice)
If I’m not mistaken, originally, the calendar began in March because spring begun then; following that order, october would be the eigth, november the ninth, and december the tenth. The two other months were not counted because they were winter months and there was no work for the farmers then. :))
Hooray! I felt so clever when I noticed this. Good old questioning raptor.
I’ve always wondered this (and September… sept… 7…. and now that i think about it… nov (similar to french neuf)=9 dec...
Because there were originally 10 months in a year, March being the first, December being the last. January and February...
Whoever made this needs to read more.
